Detail, HD Video

HD Video, a collaboration between choreographer May Zarhy and video artist Zohar Elazar (Kawaharada).

The liveness and physical proximity happening in a performance setting have been converted during the lockdown caused by Covid-19 into the domestic two-dimensionality, where what appears on the screen was so-called supposed to replace the experience happening in the theater. ‘Detail’ operates from the recognition that there is no such substitute, that shared space and presence are invaluable, thus asking what can be found choreographically through this transition from the medium of performance to that of video. In continuation to Zarhy’s work in recent years, the female voice intertwined with the potential sculpturality of the body explores how one can dive into the experience of intimacy and the felt sense thanks to the fact that physical presence, breath and body proximity on screen do not threaten us. The work is choreographed by the tension between the movement of the bodies and the use of the frame of the camera, allowing the viewers a peak into theatricality, while being in their homes.
